Recent YMCA Camp Falcona Announcement

Recent YMCA Camp Falcona Announcement

The YMCA has always applied the highest quality standards to Camp Falcona programs and staffing to ensure valuable and engaging summer experiences for hundreds of campers.

However, despite our best efforts to create new opportunities and a new model for the camp, the current financial model for Camp Falcona is no longer sustainable. For that reason, the decision has been made to permanently close Camp Falcona, effective immediately.

Current Falcona families can be rest assured that every possible option is being explored to ensure Falcona campers can access our other high quality camp programs.

We are sensitive to the concerns of current Falcona families, and while this change will be challenging, our ultimate goal is to serve even more families with exceptional camp programs and facilities. We can do this by ensuring the strength and long-term financial health of our entire camping program.

For additional information, please refer to our FAQ sheet. We thank you for your ongoing support during this time of change and are excited to welcome Camp Falcona families to our many other high quality programs in the region.

Peace Week 2014

Sudbury YMCA Honours Local Peacemakers

(Sudbury, ON) – From November 18-25, YMCA Peace Week invites people of all ages to reflect on peace, to talk, and to take action, individually and with others. A special highlight of this week is the presentation of the YMCA Peace Medal to individuals who, without any special resources, have demonstrated a commitment to the values of peace through contributions made within their local, national or global community.

This year’s ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 23rd and will honour 2 recipients who have made significant contributions towards peace-building. The 2017 YMCA Peace Medal will be presented to:

• Cristina Scarpellini – Christina has inspired others for her work providing victims of human trafficking, addictions and mental health with round-the-clock support, compassion and providing them with an opportunity for recovery. Christina and her team, the Angels of Hope, is a group of dedicated volunteers who have been giving members of our community support and compassion since 2015.

• St. Charles College Food Drive – Being recognized for coordinating a generous donation of two school buses filled with food for the Sudbury Food Bank. Their generosity has inspired local action across Sudbury to support those who do not have access to food. This group has demonstrated selfless acts of kindness to help feed our community, give back, encourage and empower our youth to make a difference in the world.

“The recipients of the YMCA Peace Medal are a tremendous inspiration and they demonstrate how we can improve the quality of life in our local, national or global community. They exemplify the values of YMCA Peace Week and the positive impact any one of us can make,” says Jacqueline Grube, Vice President of Children’s Services at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario.

2016-17 Annual Report to the Community

The Sudbury YMCA Annual Report to the Community was held Monday, October 16th at the YMCA.

The past year was one of milestones, change, growth and success as the YMCAs in North Bay and Sudbury moved from an Alliance Agreement to officially joining together as the amalgamated YMCA of Northeastern Ontario. While each YMCA will remain unique, acting as one means more for everyone. More choice, more partnerships, more connections, more shared resources, and more efficiencies for a stronger organization that will strive to achieve positive impact throughout the communities we serve.

On behalf of the YMCA Board of Directors, we are pleased to share our 2016-17 Annual Report with you. Please click the file below to download.
