We kindly ask that you register for all enrichment courses at least 2 days before the course starts. There is a minimum number of participants required for each course. Courses with low registration will be cancelled and participants will be notified as soon as possible.

 

Junior Lifeguard Club

This course is designed to challenge youth to learn the skills necessary to put them on the path to becoming a lifeguard. Open to members and non-members. Registration required.

 

Pre-requisites: 10-16 years of age.

 

Upcoming Courses: September 18 - December 11, 2017 - Monday 7:15-8:00pm

 

What to Bring: Candidates participating in the class should bring a bathing suit, towel and goggles.

 

Bronze Star with Basic First Aid (13-16 hrs)

This course is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and in partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop the lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguard. Includes a timed 400m swim.

Bronze Medallion with Emergency First Aid (20-24 hrs)

This course teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water-rescue education - judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, defence methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types.

Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 500m timed swim.

Bronze Medallion is recognized as the waterfront supervisory certification for Ontario's Recreational Camp Regulation 568.

 

Pre-requisites: Bronze Star Certification (need not be current), or 13 years of age (on or before the exam date)

 

Upcoming Courses: October 13/14/15, 2017 (Weekend Crash Course) - Friday 5:00-9:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 9:00-5:00pm

 

What to Bring: Candidates participating in the class should bring a lunch, bathing suit/suits, towel, whistle (Fox 40), goggles, bronze star certification if not 13 years old.

 

Bronze Cross (18-20 hrs)

This course is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. Includes a timed 600m swim.

Bronze Cross is recognized as an assistant lifeguard certificate in Ontario Regulation 565 governing public swimming pools.

 

Pre-requisites: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid (need not be current).

 

Upcoming Courses: October 20/21/22, 2017 (Weekend Crash Course) - Friday 5:00-9:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 9:00-5:00pm

 

What to Bring: Candidates participating in the class should bring a lunch, bathing suit/suits, towel, whistle (Fox 40), goggles, proof of Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid taken and Canadian Lifesaving Manual.

 

National Lifeguard (40 hrs)

National Lifeguard certification is Canada's professional lifeguard standard. National Lifeguard training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard's role. National Lifeguard training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid treatment. Candidates develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Fitness requirements include a timed object recovery, 50m sprint challenge, 50m rescue drill and 400m timed endurance challenge.

The National Lifeguard training program is designed for lifesavers who wish to obtain a responsible job and leadership experience. Successful candidates are certified by the Lifesaving Society - Canada's lifeguarding experts.

 

Pre-requisites: 16 years of age (on or before the exam date), Bronze Cross, and Standard First Aid from one of the following (need not be current): Lifesaving Society, Red Cross, St John's Ambulance, and Canadian Ski Patrol.

 

Upcoming Courses: November 17/18/19 and 24/25/26, 2017 (Double Weekend Crash Course) - Fridays 5:00-9:00pm, Saturdays and Sundays 9:00-5:00pm

 

Recertifications (6-8 hours): None currently offered at this time. Please check back at a later time for dates.

 

What to Bring: Candidates participating in the class should bring a lunch, bathing suit/suits, towel, whistle (Fox 40), goggles, proof of age (16 +), copies of Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid with CPR-C certifications taken.

 

Standard First Aid with CPR-C (16 hours)

Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. Standard First Aid incorporates all of Emergency First Aid and is designed for those who require a more in-depth understanding of first aid including: legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, chest injuries, and medical emergencies. Includes CPR-C certification.

This course is recognized by WSIB and is not restricted to those in aquatics. This course is required before you are able to take the National Lifeguard Certification.

 

Pre-requisites: None. (Emergency First Aid with CPR-B recommended)

 

Upcoming Courses: November 4/5, 2017 (weekend Crash Course) Saturday and Sunday 9:00-5:00pm

 

Recertifications (8 hours): Sunday November 5, 2017 9:00-5:00pm

 

What to Bring: Candidates participating in the class should bring a lunch, notebook and pen, and Emergency First Aid with CPR-B certification (if obtained).
