#HelloBrother

hellobrother

The first victim in the Christchurch New Zealand mosque massacre was reportedly an elderly Afghan refugee who stood at the door of the mosque greeting the gunman by saying “hello brother”.

Once again we hear the news of tragedy in our world. These are challenging times — uncertainty, fear, and anti-immigrant attitudes have spiked globally.  We have seen hatred and violence aimed at people of different faiths in their houses of worship. The massacre in Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday March 15,2019, took the lives of so many people in the Muslim community.  Our hearts and thoughts go out to the families and the community as they grieve this senseless loss.

We are a charity that has cared for newcomers to our City since 2010.  Today, our participants, volunteers and staff reflect on the diversity of our communities and the generations of immigrants who braved the journey to a new world with hope.  We will continue to show love and kindness to each other, offer safe spaces where we can all be ourselves, and build bridges between communities in the name of peace.

We will remain dedicated and vigilant in standing against hatred, violence, and exclusion and strive for love, peace, and inclusion.

Vision: Building healthy, welcoming communities.

Values: Caring Health Honesty Inclusiveness Respect Responsibility

Fill the Bus!

ftb-web

What is Fill the Bus?

Fill the Bus is a YMCA Strong Kids initiative that raises awareness around the YMCA’s financial assistance program and sending children to YMCA camp. Our goal this year is to raise $20,000, enough to send 80 local kids to camp!

How Much Is It to Put A Kid On The Bus?

A donation of $250 will add a child to the bus. Every dollar raised will help local kids through the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign!

How Can You Participate?

We encourage everyone to take part in this initiative! Here are some ways to get involved:

  • Engage your place of work and promote Fill the Bus on your social media
  • Local businesses can sponsor the event by pledging to send kids to camp through staff or one-time donation
  • Local schools can fundraise and engage staff, students and families with hat days or pajama days
  • Donate or run an outside third party special event to help raise funds in support of Fill the Bus

You can pick up your pledge sheet at the YMCA by visiting the Membership Desk.
